Looking for funds for flying training in Malawi? For an average person, the limited number of flying schools in Malawi and the unavailability of sponsorship or loans is another serious challenge. No wonder it has always been considered a playground of the rich. However, where there is a will there is a way. Here is how I received full flight training at a lower cost without cutting corners:
First thing first: Get ground school
For most pilots like myself, ground school takes more time than the actual flying training. To make it as short as possible, I recommend taking the Eastrise online ground school and complementing it with the free private pilot licence online mock exams or the free Flytex Pilot Exams Android app. If you are still hunting for money to pay for your private pilot licence, you could as well start by reading the free Malawi air law learning materials which are available on our DOWNLOADS page. You could also enrol in the free PPL Introductory course which is basically the first module of the PPL course offered by Eastrise Aviation.
Buy a reliable aviation headset
As far as I know, no flying school will give you a free headset – it is your sole responsibility to acquire one for your flight training and post-training flying. There are expensive headsets out there. Honestly, I don’t find them any superior to Kore Headset which I have used for both my flight training and after. I found it blending well with my black pants (trousers). Moreover, black is not ‘loud.’ Being a gender neutral colour, it matches both male and female aviators. Most importantly, the Kore headset is both professional looking and sturdy. Not surprising that it comes with a 5 year warranty.
The Kore KA1 passive noise reduction headset is a blend of great craftsmanship and attention to detail.
As I am not an affiliate of Kore, you can confidently (and ably) trust my recommendation as it is rooted on integrity and experience with the brand not a financial gain. Besides, I have had friends tell me they used the headset for their initial flight training and still use it in their flying career. Most importantly, there are over 98 percent credible positive reviews on the Kore Headset brand from their customers.
Get the most from your flight training
Would you train just to get a licence not the airmanship to help you fly safely and competently? The US Federal Aviation Administration insists that the purpose of flying training should be to acquire the necessary skills and the issuance of a licence should only be incidental to the same. Short version of this: get the proper training – don’t just do the bare minimum for the sake of obtaining a licence. At Eastrise, our PPL curriculum is pegged at 60 hours because we have understood that the average student will acquire the recommended competency at no less than 60 flight training hours. We also give free online flight school access to paid up students. The difference is that the online flight school contains videos and rich multimedia pertaining to the upcoming flight lesson. Students are thus able to prepare for the flight lessons by among other things, using the online flight school and the briefings that our flight instructors undertake.
Go beyond the classroom
Being a professional and competent pilot is a combination of several factors: the flying school you received instruction from, the capabilities of your instructor, your aptitude and personality; and most importantly, your willingness to continue learning.
Accelerating flying training may not always work for everyone. We learn differently. If you want to be a safe pilot, you need to constantly keep polishing up your skills. A good pilot never stops learning!
