Oral radio exam

A student is assessed on his/her competence in communicating with air traffic control.

This exam is administered by the Civil Aviation Authority examiners and may take up to 2 hours. Examiners often combine this exam with the English language proficiency check.

Medical exam
All students and pilot licence holders are required by law to hold valid medical certificates. Medical exams are arranged by Eastrise during enrolment and are undertaken only by approved aviation medical examiners.

Exams and licencing

When you complete your ground and flight training, Eastrise Aviation will book your knowledge and skills tests with the Malawi CAA following internal assessment.

There are two skills (practical) tests:

  • General handling: the examiner will test your ability to handle the aircraft in different scenarios, including emergencies.
  • Navigation test: the examiner will test your ability to plan and fly to a destination and to be able to divert in cases of bad weather.

PLEASE NOTE
Malawi pilot licences are issued in accordance with the International Civil Aviation (ICAO) requirements. They are therefore internationally recognised and can be converted to a foreign licence if required.
